Why

I'm interested in the way that we can all contribute to cultural data sets. Personnal experience and group knowledge can inform and expand the existing data pool. As data consumers we need to engage in an process which enhances cultural delivery through the contribution of the individual. I have sought to develop a simple platform for sharing cultural data in way that invites participation and is can be developed through contribution. These have included this blog, a MediaWiki and through GoogleMaps.

The Blog and the MediaWiki display cultural data in a form which allows contribution through comments and group participation. The wiki allows editing and enhancement through group participation. The GoogleMaps KML is an attempt to bring context to cultural data through personal experience. This is displayed as a virtual pub crawl in which I document pubs I have visited with links to historical images drawn from Leodis via the CultureGrid API.
